Media Release: Darwin Construction Growth calls for a Local Approach

The growth of the Darwin construction sector has prompted international property and development consultants Davis Langdon to take a more “hands-on” approach to the provision of Building Surveying services in the Northern Territory.

Until recently, Davis Langdon’s Building Surveying was managed from its Adelaide office, but because of the strength of the market, Senior Building Surveyor Tomas Januskevicius has moved to Darwin so that he can be better positioned to look after the local market.

Mr Januskevicius said he would continue to offer the Building Surveying services that Davis Langdon has been providing to clients in the Northern Territory for the past 18 months through the Adelaide office, but with a much more local focus.

“Being on the ground gives me a far greater appreciation of the intricacies of the Darwin market and makes it much easier to tailor our services to meet local needs,” he said.

“It allows Davis Langdon to deliver even more accurate, balanced advice and assistance and to provide an understanding of the Northern Territory’s regulatory compliance obligations relative to the built environment.”

Utilising an in-depth knowledge of the Building Code of Australia in conjunction with innovative and lateral approaches plus a practical appreciation of the demands of business, Davis Langdon is in a better position than ever to identify, assess and recommend optimum strategies to achieve the best results.

Key services include advice to clients and their design team throughout the project delivery process ranging from feasibility, design development and documentation, through to issuing building permits, performing compliance inspections during construction and issuing of occupancy permits.

Tomas’s expertise is in technical advice on the Building Code of Australia across all building classifications. His Building Surveying experience originates from the Public Sector, where he was employed by the City of Marion and City of Onkaparinga.

The combination of his experience in both public and private sector means he is well placed to provide building surveying services on all types of projects.

With a stronger local presence, Davis Langdon is now actively seeking more local projects with which to become involved.

Mr Januskevicius has been involved with projects which range from office buildings, health care facilities, public buildings, educational buildings, multiple storey residential buildings, shops, restaurants and other food premises.

Because of his experience in the public sector he has an intimate understanding of negotiating government building regulation process.

Current Darwin projects in which Davis Langdon’s Building Surveying Unit is involved include the $150m The Avenues Apartments at Parap, and the $20m Zest Apartments project in Gardiner Street, both of which are currently nearing certification point.

Davis Langdon is also involved in surveying projects for ABS Office Fit-outs and Salvation Army’s Supported Accommodation now in the construction phase.
