The $1.55 billion, multi-day bed Gold Coast University Hospital is part of an expansion of clinical services on the Gold Coast, the sixth largest city in Australia. The hospital will be located on a 19 hectare site at Southport and will offer the community a wider range of more comprehensive health care locally, including cancer, cardiac, neurosciences, trauma and neonatal intensive care services.
The new hospital will provide:
- health care in a parkland setting
- clairty and ease of access and navigating
- better grouping of departments and services
- improved patient flows
- excellence and innovation in design
- environmentally sustainable design principles
- flexibility in design to accommodate future expansion
- healing benefits of gardens, courtyards and walkways
- maximising links between health care delivery, education and research
The hospital will be situated adjacent to Griffith University and will be in close proximity to Bond University, the new Queensland Academy for Health Sciences and other education facilities.
Environmentally sustainable design principles and materials have been incorporated in all aspects of the planning and design of the facility, meaning a 'greener' and more energy efficient hospital.
Over time, it is envisaged that the Gold Coast University Hospital will grow to become a nationally and internationally recognised centre for innovative medical research and care.
In its Cost Management role, Davis Langdon will be providing masterplan, PDP, schematic desdign and development design, cost planning and contruction phase auditing.
Sod was turned on the site in early March 2009 to formally begin construction of the project, and is expected to be completed at the end of 2012.
