Davis Langdon joins AECOM in its Edinburgh headquarters

September, 2011

Davis Langdon joins AECOM in its Edinburgh headquarters, completing the joining together of the two organisations in the city following their merger last year.

Global construction consultancy Davis Langdon, an AECOM company, announced today that it has officially moved into AECOM’s office at 1 Tanfield in the Canonmills area of Edinburgh, formally completing the joining together of the two organisations following their merger in the autumn of last year. The move brings Davis Langdon’s programme, cost and consultancy management services under the same roof as AECOM’s specialists in building engineering, environment, water and transportation.

The two organisations’ Scottish teams are already working together on a number of projects including Kilmarnock College and the recently completed Peace Bridge in Northern Ireland. The Edinburgh offices of both AECOM and Davis Langdon have a long history of working on high profile projects in Scotland.

This is highlighted by AECOM’s recent appointment on the new Forth Replacement Bridge to undertake the design check of the cable-stayed bridge, which incudes the complex cable arrangements and marine foundation works. In addition, Davis Langdon is currently working on the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and recently completed National Portait Gallery in Edinburgh, the 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village and National Indoor Sports Arena in Glasgow, and the University of Aberdeen’s New Library.

Sam MacKenzie, Head of Scotland for Davis Langdon, commented, “This is an exciting development in the ongoing evolution of Davis Langdon and AECOM. By basing ourselves in the same building, we will be able to provide our clients with an even higher level of integrated services which we have been offering since the merger of our two organisations last autumn.”

The Canonmills office location itself has an interesting history. The First Congregation of the Free Church of Scotland was held on the site in 1843 and after that the site was a Tannery. In the 1960s, it was the headquarters of the Daily Mail in Scotland. The current office at Tanfield was built around the retained building in 1991 as the headquarters of Standard Life and was officially opened on 1 July 1991 by Her Majesty the Queen. Standard Life moved out of the building in 2005, and in 2009 a £20M refurbishment of 190,000 square feet of Grade A office space was completed. AECOM became the first tenants in December that year and other tenants now include Trainline and Craneware.
